SOUTH BEACH

Where

South Beach encompasses a treasure trove of famed beaches, including South Pointe Park & Beach and Lummus Park, a ten-block stretch that spans Ocean Drive from 5th to 15th streets, Miami Beach, FL 33139. Here’s more information about area beaches, including those north of Lincoln Road.

Vibe

Beautiful people, exciting, colorful, iconic. Lummus Park embodies the South Beach you’ve seen in the movies, with buff rollerbladers traversing the Miami Beach Walk and ripped men flexing in a Muscle Beach outdoor fitness area. This urban oasis is home to sand volleyball courts, the Art Deco Welcome Center at 10th Street, and is just across the street from historic Art Deco hotels and outdoor cafes.

See, feel

Lummus Park is infused with the quintessential Miami vibe: expansive green spaces, palms everywhere, chairs and umbrellas set on the beach and candy-colored lifeguard stations. You’ll see people jogging and biking, kids giggling in the playgrounds, and often, celebrities enjoying the sunshine. The beach is wide, with sand that’s a beautiful golden-brown color. The color of the Atlantic changes with its mood, sometimes indigo and other times sapphire or turquoise. Lummus Park is popular, so anticipate some crowds, particularly as South Beach wakes up. Waves will vary depending on the tides, wind, and offshore systems.

On or near the beach

Sunbathing, swimming and people watching are favorite ways to enjoy South Beach. For more action, rent a bike or skates to roll down the beachfront path; perfect your pushups at Muscle Beach; try a surf lesson with SoBe Surf; or take a walking tour out of the Miami Design Preservation League’s Art Deco Welcome Center.
